Shaping the EU research policy

EUREC Agency promotes the interests of renewable energy R&D by offering its expertise to advise EU policy-makers on key issues of relevance to the sector. The staff of EUREC Agency are continuously liaising with representatives of the European institutions to serve and promote their members’ interests at the European level.

Recently, EUREC Agency published a report which examines how research can and should contribute to achieve the 2020 targets for renewable energy. As an association of leading European research centres working across the full range of renewable energy technologies, EUREC was able to bring together and summarise the research required in the renewable energy sector in a single valuable publication.

In the past, EUREC Agency organised Research-Industry dialogues for the joint definition and agreement of R&D priorities. Today, EUREC is supporting the development of "Strategic Research Agendas" inside of two EU Technology Platforms - one dedicated to photovoltaics, the other to renewable heating and cooling. EUREC is also represented in other energy-related platforms and fulfils a liaison-function among the different initiatives (e.g. European Industrial Initiatives, European Energy Research Platform, European Institute of Innovation and Technology).

EUREC Agency is also developing its position on the “Research Infrastructures” under FP7, with a view to ensuring that research infrastructures for renewable energy technologies are adequately considered.

In order to promote the quicker and broader update of renewable energy technology innovations by the market, EUREC Agency set up, within the context of the PRORETT project, a technology transfer promotion support group of professionals from research, business-developers and financiers in early 2006.

Education and Information

The European Master in Renewable Energy, is the only trans-national postgraduate program in the renewable energy field. It provides highly qualified engineers with the latest skills and a relevant experience in renewable energy technologies. Courses are taught in five different EU countries in high-level research centres and technical universities that are part of the EUREC members’ network. In 2008, 50 students were graduated, representing 17 different nationalities.
In addition, our members provide one- or two-day professional courses on specific subjects. With the support of the European Commission, EUREC Agency has been playing a key role in the diffusion of updated information on the development of renewable energy in Europe, by taking part to the bimonthly publication of the ‘Eurobarometer on Renewable Energy’.

 Projects for the near future

We would like to increase the compatibility of EU and national renewable energy research programmes by offering a dynamic overview of who is doing what and which body or Member State is funding what kind of R&D tasks.
