Friday, 31 July 2009
The European Commission has published on 30 July 2009 a number of calls for proposals under the specific programmes “Cooperation” and “Capacities” of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). Both the DG RTD and DG TREN “ENERGY” calls were published without major changes compare to what we anticipated in the EUREC Agency newsletter (issue of May 09).

Information concerning the Capacities Call can be found here.
The four “ENERGY” calls address respectively:

      • FP7-ENERGY-2010-1 - deadlines: 15 October 2009 first stage; 11 March 2010 second stage
        • Activity Energy.2: Renewable electricity generation
             o Area.2.1 Photovoltaics
             o Area.2.3 Wind
             o Area.2.5 Concentrated Solar Power
        • Activity Energy.3: Renewable Fuel Production
o Area.3.5 Alternative routes to renewable fuel production
        • Activity Energy.5: CO2 Capture and Storage technologies for zero emission power generation
             o Area.5.1 CO2 Capture
             o Area.5.2 CO2 Storage
        • Activity Energy.7: Smart energy networks
o Area.7.3 Cross cutting issues and technologies
        • Activity Energy.8: Energy efficiency and savings
o Area Energy.8.1 Efficient energy use in the manufacturing industry and building sector

  • FP7-ENERGY-2010-2deadline: 4 March 2010
    • Activity Energy.2 Renewable electricity generation

On 30 July DG Research and DG Transport and Energy also launched three additional energy-related calls for proposals in collaboration with other European Commission Directorates. The three new cross thematic calls are the following:

FP7-OCEAN-2010: “The ocean of tomorrow” - deadline: 14 January 2010
• Topic OCEAN.2010 -1: Quantification of climate change impacts on economic sectors in the Artic
• Topic OCEAN.2010-2: Vectors of changes in ocean and seas marine life, impact on economic sectors
• Topic OCEAN.2010-3: Sub-seabed carbon storage and the marine environment

FP7-2010-NMP-ENV-ENERGY-ICT-EeB: “Energy-efficient Buildings – 2010” - deadline: 3 November 2009
• Topic EeB.NMP.2010-1: New nanotechnology-based high performance insulation systems for energy efficiency
• Topic EeB.NMP.2010-2: New technologies for energy efficiency at district level
• Topic EeB.ENV.2010-.3.2.4-1: Compatible solutions for improving the energy efficiency of historic buildings in urban areas
• Topic EeB.ENERGY.2010.8.1-2: Demonstration of Energy Efficiency through Retrofitting of Buildings
• Topic EeB-ICT-2010-10.2: ICT for energy-efficient buildings and spaces of public use

FP7-2010-GC-ELECTROCHEMICAL-STORAGE: Public-Private Partnership “Green Cars” - deadline: 14 January 2010
• Topic GC.ENERGY.2010.10.2-2: Materials, technologies and processes for sustainable automotive electrochemical storage applications

The underlying cross-cutting character of these calls is also reflected in its budget coming from seven different Themes of the FP7 specific programme “Cooperation”, namely Food & Biotechnologies, Information and Communication Technologies, Nanosciences & new production technologies, Energy, Environment, Transport, and Socio-Economic Sciences & Humanities.

Full details of these calls are available on the CORDIS website.
The European Commission is organising a “Energy Research Information Day” dedicated to the 2010 calls for proposals. The event will take place in Brussels on the 14 September 2009. The EUREC Agency Secretariat is going to attend the info day; EUREC members which are also attending the event may wish to inform us of their presence there to allow EUREC to greet them and collect their feedback.

To further discuss the new calls for proposals or to inform us of your participation in the info day, please contact Simone at or at +32 (0)2 546 1930.
