Mission

The National Technical University (NTUA) is the oldest and most prestigious educational institution of Greece in the field of technology, and has contributed unceasingly to the country's scientific, technical and economic development since its foundation in 1836.

It has been a member of EUREC Agency since 1997. NTUA has been involved for a long time in education and research activities related to renewable energy sources. Wind energy Research and education is conducted primarily by the Renewable Energy Sources Unit (RENES), the Wind Energy Laboratory (WEL) and the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Objectives

The RENewable Energy Sources Unit (RENES), being on charge of the work to be done by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) within the proposed activity, is an educational and research unit of NTUA. NTUA-RENES has been formed with the aim of co-ordinating the activities of several scientific groups within NTUA. The 23 faculty members (from 6 different University departments) which are actively involved in RENES have been working in Renewable Energies research fields for more than two decades.

Laboratories/Facilities

Please visit the following link for information: www.ntua.gr

-       Wind Energy Laboratory

-       Laboratory of Aerodynamics

-       Laboratory of Hydraulic Turbomachines

-       Industrial and Energy Economy Laboratory

-       Electric Machines and Power Electronics

Laboratory facilities include a GIS system, a large subsonic wind tunnel, a towing tank and test facilities for pumps and turbines.

More information on wind research activities carried out at NTUA can be found on: http://www.fluid.mech.ntua.gr/wind/index.html

Technology expertise

The scientific staff in the Schools, together with post-graduate researchers and a considerable number of external collaborators, conduct research work. The amount and the high standards of this research are proved by the numerous publications in International Scientific Journals and Proceedings of International Conferences as well as by the prominent place of NTUA among all Europeans Universities, due to the increasing number of research projects financed by the EU and other Greek and foreign organizations of the public and the private sector.

NTUA operates many of its Laboratories also as "service laboratories", which provide expert advice, tests and measurements and all specialized services in general, within the framework of its technological competence, which can be useful for the development of the country.
