EUREC publishes position paper on FP9
EUREC is publishing this position paper on FP9. The European Commission is expected to open a public consultation in January.
Horizon 2020 has been an immensely valuable tool for energy research. In our recently published Projects Catalogue 2017, EUREC members choose ongoing and completed Horizon 2020 and FP7 projects, explain why they are valuable and express their pride in them.
The Research and Innovation Framework Programmes, which have accounted for 20-25% of all public spending in energy research across Europe, have enabled teams to work cross-border and make significant breakthroughs in renewable energy technology.
Key messages:
- Spending must be increased on renewable energy and technologies for the integration of renewables into the energy system. The sector has demonstrated both its appetite for funding and its capacity to write high-quality proposals. The proposal likely to be adopted by the European Parliament (+50% in the share of the budget for energy compared to Horizon 2020), is appropriate.
- Keep it simple: no big changes in the transition to FP9 as regards the user experience, please.
- Pursue P2P (public-public partnership) reform: The Framework Programme’s budget is more efficiently distributed through in-house instruments and calls rather than "cofund”-ing with national money. The reform provides an opportunity for the SET Plan to demonstrate the robustness of the relationships that have formed between the SET Plan countries.
